The grandparent tells the child. When the child becomes a mother, she will tell the story to her child; and the dance continues. Some medical myths have deep cultural routes. Invisible germs (viruses, bacteria, etc.) cause most of our illnesses, but some cultures do not believe in these microorganisms. In many cultures, diseases are caused by spirits. In other cultures, diseases are caused by environmental incidents, like cold air or wet hair. Even bathing was felt to be a cause of illness in generations past.
